What Semrush is genuinely good at
Distribution and breadth, honestly earned over fifteen-plus years. The AI Visibility Toolkit covers ChatGPT, Gemini (including AI Overviews and AI Mode), and Perplexity; the Prompt Research feature brings something the category needs, real demand signals about what people ask AI engines, backed by a very large prompt dataset; and their published AI Visibility Index research is a real contribution to the field. The Site Audit’s AI Search Health packaging is clean and scannable, and if your team already lives in Semrush for SEO, the marginal cost of adding their AEO module is low, at $99/mo standalone as of mid-2026. For a light-touch read on AI visibility inside an existing SEO workflow, it is a reasonable start.

Where we differ, and why it matters
Measured reachability versus parsed rules. Semrush answers “are you blocked from AI?” by reading your robots.txt. That is a fine first check, and it is not the same fact as whether an AI bot can actually fetch your page: bot walls, challenges, and rendering all sit between the rule and the reality.
